The Waste & Recycling Council is a grouping of businesses that variously generate, collect, recycle, re-use and dispose of waste in the Auckland region. In Auckland nearly 80% of waste comes from businesses.  Businesses organise how their waste should be handled and pay for it directly (disposer pays). For some of us another's by-product is raw material. For example we do not regard so-called "greenwaste" and food scraps as necessarily waste. They are for composting.

Members and supporters share concerns about Auckland Council proposals to take over control of solid waste and to increase costs at most levels of our industry. We've seen no evidence that it would be good for the environment. It would interfere in the varied arrangements we have that suit our clients, by directing all waste through council hands. We want solid waste managed in the most effective and efficient way for Auckland.
